Amplifier with DSP Match UP 8DSP

The new UP 8DSP is a true all-rounder that not only brings unbridled power and dynamics for true hi-fi sound, but also comes with all the prerequisites for easy integration into the vehicle.

Seamless connectivity

With its six high-level inputs, an optical digital input, a MATCH Extension Card slot and many smart technologies such as the proprietary ADEP.3 circuit, the UP 8DSP is perfectly equipped to fit seamlessly into existing multi-channel sound systems. In addition, with a total of eight amplifier channels and an additional line output - in combination with a powerful 9-channel DSP - individual speaker configurations can also be realized. The amplifier's two output channels provide 160 W RMS into 2 Ω - enough to power even large subwoofers.

Virtual Channel Processing – this is how signal routing works today

Optimum adaptation to existing multi-channel sound systems requires intelligent management and configuration of multiple DSP channels - so there was no doubt that the UP 8DSP is also equipped with Audiotec Fischer's innovative virtual channel processing. In particular, when front, back, and center systems are split into multidirectional systems, conventional routing concepts quickly hit their limits, both in terms of implementation and usability. Multi-stage "Virtual Channel Processing" in conjunction with the acclaimed user-friendly DSP PC-Tool software makes it easy to map even highly complex system configurations and freely assign our proprietary sound FX functions. In addition, thanks to its generous number of channels in combination with the optional MEC ANALOG IN module, the UP 8DSP is also a prime example for applications where 1:1 routing (IOR) makes sense.

ACO - Advanced 32 Bit CoProcessor Platform

The UP 8DSP contains an extremely powerful 32-bit co-processor of the latest generation. It not only takes over all control tasks ultra-fast, but also switches up to ten possible sound settings in a flash. But ACO offers much more - in addition to the channel-separated Input EQ including Input Signal Analyzer (ISA) for easy analysis and compensation of OE radio input signals and fantastic sound effects such as Augmented Bass Processing or RealCenter, there is now the revolutionary TuneEQ function for automatic adjustment of output equalizers.
Another significant advantage is the integrated native CoProcessor loader. It allows software upgrades of all DSP components to adapt the ADEP.3 microcontroller controlled circuit eg in case of future modifications/changes in the diagnostic system of factory radios or if the device is expanded with additional interfaces.

Compact dimensions

Despite its wide feature set and massive output power of 6 x 65 Watts at 4 Ω plus 2 x 90 / 160 Watts at 4 / 2 Ω, the UP 8DSP - as usual for MATCH amplifiers - comes in a very compact design, so it can be installed without any problems even in confined spaces.

DSP PC-Tool 5 feat. TuneEQ - Powerful functions for a perfect sound experience

Of course, the MATCH UP 8DSP can be easily configured with our new, professional and exceptionally intuitive DSP PC-Tool 5. The well-known, numerous setting options fulfill every wish and guarantee extremely accurate sound settings even for complex system configurations. And thanks to the new, proprietary TuneEQ function for automatic frequency response correction, you'll also save a lot of time optimizing your sound.

GD class technology

Audiotec Fischer's proprietary Class GD concept takes the efficiency of conventional Class D amplifiers to the next level. By changing the internal supply voltage in several steps depending on the input signals of the amplifier, the no-load losses are greatly reduced and the overall efficiency is always close to the maximum. So heat dissipation is almost negligible, allowing for the smallest coolers and the most compact shapes.

Intelligent high-level input ADEP.3

Modern, factory-installed car stereos include sophisticated diagnostic options for connected speakers. Especially the latest generation of car radios are equipped with additional monitoring functions, so error messages and loss of specific functions (e.g. fader function) appear quite often if a regular amplifier is connected, but not with the UP 8DSP. The new ADEP.3 (Advanced Diagnostics Error Protection, 3rd Generation) circuit avoids all these problems without unnecessarily loading the OE radio's speaker outputs at high volume.

Start-Stop capability

The MATCH UP 8DSP switching power supply ensures a constant internal supply voltage even if the battery voltage drops to 6 V during engine cranking. If the supply voltage drops below 10.5 V for more than five seconds, the amplifier enters "Protect Mode" LED lights up red) to prevent further discharge of the car battery.

Automatic digital signal detection

The UP 8DSP enables signal-controlled switching between analog inputs and digital input. As soon as an input signal is detected at the optical input, the amplifier automatically switches to this input. This function can be deactivated in the DSP PC-Tool software. Alternatively, you can use the optional remote control to manually switch between analog and digital inputs.

Power saving mode

Energy saving mode is part of the basic settings. It allows to significantly reduce the power consumption of the UP 8DSP and potentially connected amplifiers when no input signal is present for more than 60 seconds. Please note that many modern cars with "CAN" or any other internal bus structure can cause the radio to remain "invisibly" on for up to 45 minutes even after locking and exiting the car! As soon as "Power Save Mode" is active, the remote output and thus the connected amplifiers are switched off. MATCH UP 8DSP reactivates the remote output within a second if a music signal is applied. Using the DSP PC-Tool software, it is possible to adjust the shutdown time to 60 seconds, or to disable the power saving mode completely.

TuneEQ

TuneEQ is an extremely flexible and particularly easy-to-use automatic frequency response correction function. A single measurement per audio channel or channel pair with a suitable measurement microphone (eg our MTK1) is enough for TuneEQ to independently and accurately adjust the EQs to the desired reference curve. TuneEQ uses a full set of parametric equalizer functions including center frequency, Q-factor and gain settings. And since very complex arithmetic operations are required for this running in the background, you'll also save a lot of time optimizing your audio with TuneEQ.

RealCenter

The "RealCenter" function is an algorithm developed by Audiotec Fischer that emphasizes the musical information present in both the left and right front channels to create a unique center signal. Unlike conventional procedures in which only channels are summed, the intensity of the center signal is also dynamically controlled by the stereo information content of the left and right channels. It sounds complicated, but the effect is stunning: This means that if only the left or right channels provide an audio signal, the center channel will not reproduce the signal. In the case of common algorithms, the volume level of the center channel is reduced by only 6 dB (= half the volume level). Audiotec Fischer "RealCenter" enables a unique, expanded soundstage for both driver and passenger at the same time! The disadvantages of a conventional center channel, such as a distracting, small soundstage, are therefore a thing of the past.

Advanced bass processing

Audiotec Fischer's proprietary "Augmented Bass Processing" technology, consisting of two revolutionary sound functions "Dynamic Bass Enhancement" and "SubXpander", has been specially developed to significantly improve the bass reproduction of subwoofers. "Dynamic Bass Enhancement" ingeniously combines maximum deep bass and highest sound pressure, regardless of music style or tone controls in the head unit. Depending on the input signal, "Dynamic Bass Enhancement" gains a lower frequency range and changes the cutoff frequency of the subsonic filter. The result is a significantly stronger and deeper bass response at low and medium volume levels without the risk of mechanical or electrical overload of the subwoofer at high volume levels. It's simply fascinating what bass performance is suddenly possible. If you want an even lower and "darker" bass reproduction, the "SubXpander" can be additionally activated. Therefore, subharmonic tones are added to the fundamental tones in the frequency range between 50 and 100 Hz.

Number of amplifier channelsAmplifiers are divided into:
- Monoblocks
- 2-channel
- 3-channel
- 4-channel
- 5-channel
- 6-channel
- multi-channel

Each channel is used to power one speaker for the coaxial type, or one side if they are component speakers.

Monoblock type amplifiers are mainly used for subwoofers.

2-channel are suitable for both subwoofers and, for example, the front pair of speakers in a car.

3-channel is used for front or rear speakers + subwoofer.

4-channel are used for front + rear speakers or 1 pair of speakers + subwoofer.

6 or 5-channel are used for 2 pairs of speakers + subwoofer, most often.

Bridging means connecting the amplifier to a bridge, using the + pole from one channel and the - pole from the other channel. In most cases this is shown as "BRIDGED" on the amplifier.

Energy class of the amplifierAmplifiers are divided into two basic classes: analog and digital . Analog amplifiers (A/B) have higher consumption requirements, but usually have a more natural sound. Digital amplifiers (D) have significantly lower consumption and higher efficiency, but the sound may not be as faithful as with classic analog amplifiers. GD

Frequency rangeThe ability of the amplifier to reproduce the signal from the lowest frequency to the highest = faithfully reproduce the sound in a specific frequency band.

Professionally:
In the frequency range from 40 to 16,000 Hz, the vast majority of fundamental and overtones (harmonics) of all musical instruments are found. We are interested in the course of the radiated sound pressure in this range of frequencies when the loudspeaker system is supplied with constant power. We call this course the frequency characteristic, which tells us the level of radiated sound pressure in decibels (dB) depending on the frequency. The frequency characteristic of a speaker or speaker system can be expressed most succinctly with a graph.

Mostly, however, the frequency characteristic is indicated by indicating the maximum tolerance of the sound pressure in the given frequency range, e.g. 50 to 15,000 Hz -+ 6 dB. Since the frequency characteristics of loudspeakers and systems in general are quite uneven, some manufacturers do not even specify this maximum tolerance of sound pressure in decibels in their catalogs for reasons of prestige. Data impoverished in this way is unfortunately worthless. What is valid is that the manufacturer offers a speaker system with a frequency range of 30 to 20,000 Hz, if he is worried about stating the maximum unevenness of the sound pressure in this range, because he can have a tolerance of, for example, +- 20 dB.

The unevenness or undulation of the frequency curve in good speaker systems for high-quality music performance should not exceed +-3 dB in the 80 to 12,000 Hz band and +-6 dB in the 40 to 16,000 Hz band. Greater unevenness already depletes or emphasizes certain tonal areas, which can cause audible or even disturbing distortion. The proportion between fundamental tones and higher harmonics also changes, thereby changing the color of the sound, and individual musical instruments as well as the entire musical image sound unnatural.
20 - 22000 Hz
Harmonic Distortion (THD)Total harmonic distortion indicates how much the input signal is distorted in the amplifier. Distortions appear as overtones contained in the output signal. The proportion of originally absent parts of the signal is given as a percentage, typical values are between 0.001% and 0.5%.

Distortion is measured in their power band. If it exceeds the limit of 0.7% from a certain power, it is the value of the output power of the given amplifier, from which it no longer plays without distortion and from which the distortion usually increases steeply, so that no further increase in power can be counted on. The lower the value, the better.
< 0.03%
Signal-to-noise ratioThe signal-to-noise ratio means that the output signal always contains noise. The signal-to-noise ratio expresses how much of this noise is compared to the useful signal. The so-called A value is given, which does not take deep and very high frequencies into account. This corresponds to the characteristic of human hearing, which is not so sensitive to deep frequencies, especially below 1 kHz. The higher the value, the better the amplifier is. 105 dB
Damping factorDF - Damping Factor . It is the ratio of the load (repro + cables, crossover, etc.) to the internal resistance of the amplifier. The bigger the DF, the more controlled the bass. Amplifiers with a lower DF tend to hum. Subwoofers with a higher Q in the bass reflex and sometimes in the enclosure will also cause humming. > 100
