High/low converter Zapco ASP-OEB
For years, people have used passive converters to adapt speaker level signals to RCA signals in order to add amplifiers to their systems. The results were less than satisfactory. In fact, many (if not most) people out there have accepted the fact that factory stereo signals simply aren't good enough to fit into a high-end audio system. But he is wrong!
Passive high/low converter (regular high/low converter): There is nothing wrong with the factory stereo signal. The problem is with passive converters that use resistors, inductors and capacitors to block the high level signal and consume some of the power so it comes out at a lower level. At the same time, they add distortion and noise and remove information about the lowest frequencies from the signal. This means that the signal coming out of the passive converter is worse than the signal coming in. It has more distortion, more noise and low frequency information has been removed. When you put this signal into an amplifier, you get a bad sound at higher volumes. Most people who add a 2 channel adapter do so to add a subwoofer to the system. A passive converter is completely counterproductive. Adds a woofer while removing bass from the signal.
