4.1 Digital Sound Processor (DSP) with powerful subwoofer

With the new Alpine product PWD-X5, it is now possible to achieve a perfectly integrated and high-performance audio installation using a single device. This very unique sound system upgrade product includes a high-performance digital sound processor (DSP), a 4-channel amplifier for your front and rear doors, as well as an ultra-flat active subwoofer. The small size allows the PWD-X5 to be easily installed inside the car cabin to enjoy a nice bass upgrade. Connect the factory OEM radio using the high-frequency inputs, or for an already installed car radio using the RCA inputs, and control the system using a wired remote control or a convenient smartphone app. This product is ideal for customers looking to improve the sound quality in their car, who do not want to install multiple components and then run new wiring all over the car. The PWD-X5 comes with a complete installation kit including cables (4.5 meters) with main fuse.

All-in-one car sound enhancement

The PWD-X5 is equipped with a digital sound processor (DSP), a compact active subwoofer and a 4-channel amplifier - all in one package. The PWD-X5 is ideal for smaller vehicles and customers who don't want to install many different components in their car. The built-in amplifier provides 4 x 50 W for the speaker channels and 240 W for the built-in subwoofer (peak power). Mounting brackets and wiring kit are included.

Compact installation

Very compact dimensions of only 350mm long x 245mm wide x 80mm allow the PWD-X5 to be installed under the front seats of a range of vehicles. It can also be easily installed in the trunk of a hatchback or coupe. The total weight of the product is just over 5 kg.

Extensive audio tuning features

Use the built-in 10-band parametric EQ, digital time correction and digital transition to fine-tune your vehicle's sound. You can make the main settings by connecting a computer using Alpine's free software, or via the supplied cable controller. There's also a smartphone app that allows users to switch between presets on the go and adjust subwoofer levels and volume.

Extensive connectivity options

You can connect the PWD-X5 to an aftermarket radio using the RCA inputs. If you have an original car stereo in your car that doesn't even have an RCA connection, you can connect it to a DSP amplifier using the high power inputs. There are also 2 USB ports for the supplied external Bluetooth dongle and for connecting a wired remote control and a PC for setup.

Wired remote control

The remote control is connected to the DSP amplifier via a USB interface. Use the rotary encoder to select presets, input sources, sound settings and more.

Bluetooth music streaming

If your original car stereo does not include Bluetooth audio streaming, the PWD-X5 is again a great solution for you. With the supplied Bluetooth dongle, which can be connected to one of the USB ports on the DSP amplifier, you can stream music from your smartphone to the PWD-X5. Simply pair your phone and select Bluetooth as the source on the wired remote to enjoy all your music, Spotify and internet radio on your sound system.

Get the Smartphone app

You can download the Alpine app for the PWD-X5 for free from Google Play and the Apple App Store. This application allows you to adjust the main volume and subwoofer level, set sound presets, switch audio input sources, adjust 10-band parametric EQ, Crossover, Fader / Balance and much more.

RMS power of the subwooferThe RMS power of an active subwoofer is the constant power that the active subwoofer can play over a long period of time. We recommend following this value. The RMS power of active subwoofers is taken as the RMS power of the integrated amplifier, which in most cases is slightly undersized, which guarantees protection against subwoofer burning. 4 x 25 + 165 W
Maximum subwoofer performancePeak performance or Max. power that an active subwoofer can play for a moment (approx. 0.5 s), for example when percussion instruments are struck in a recording. But it is not as important a parameter as the RMS power. 4 x 50 + 240 W
Frequency rangeThe ability of the device to reproduce a signal from the lowest frequency to the highest, or the ability of an active subwoofer to faithfully reproduce sound in a specific frequency band.

Professionally:
In the frequency range from 40 to 16,000 Hz, the vast majority of fundamental and overtones (harmonics) of all musical instruments are found. We are interested in the course of the radiated sound pressure in this range of frequencies when the loudspeaker system is supplied with constant power. We call this course the frequency characteristic, which tells us the level of radiated sound pressure in decibels (dB) depending on the frequency. The frequency characteristic of a speaker or speaker system can be expressed most succinctly with a graph.

Mostly, however, the frequency characteristic is indicated by indicating the maximum tolerance of the sound pressure in the given frequency range, e.g. 50 to 15,000 Hz -+ 6 dB. since the frequency characteristics of loudspeakers and systems in general are quite uneven, some manufacturers do not even specify this maximum tolerance of sound pressure in decibels for reasons of prestige. Data impoverished in this way is worthless. What is valid is that the manufacturer offers a speaker system with a frequency range of 30 to 20,000 Hz, if he is worried about stating the maximum unevenness of the sound pressure in this range, because he can have a tolerance of, for example, +- 20 dB.

The unevenness, i.e. the undulation of the frequency course in good speaker systems for quality music performance should not exceed +-3 dB in the 80 to 12,000 Hz band and +-6 dB in the 40 to 16,000 Hz band. Greater unevenness already depletes or emphasizes certain tonal areas, which can cause audible or even disturbing distortion. The proportion between fundamental tones and higher harmonics also changes, thereby changing the color of the sound, and individual musical instruments as well as the entire musical image sound unnatural.

Phase rotation optionPhase shift is a linear electronic oscillator that produces a sinusoidal output. It consists of an inverting part of the amplifier such as a transistor. The feedback network "shifts" the phase at the output of the amplifier by 180 degrees to the oscillation frequency and gives positive feedback. The Phase shift filter produces a phase shift that increases with increasing frequency.

This is usually used when the subwoofer sub-assembly is out with the magnet, or when two amplifiers are connected externally. Phase Shift is also used with active speaker wiring, where the time shift of the speakers is set. The point is that the subwoofer does not play the bass late, and for this reason better amplifiers offer this phase reversal option.

Cabling included in the packageSome active subwoofers have complete wiring included in the package. In the event that the package really includes complete wiring for connection, we mark the parameter as "yes". If the wiring is not included, it must be purchased. Yes
Remote control included in the packageSome models of active subwoofers also have wired remote controls in the package, which on the one hand connect to the active box, and on the other hand you have a potentiometer that you can place anywhere in the cabin. A common place to place the remote control is under the steering wheel. The advantage is the regulation of power, and therefore volume, depending on driving conditions and the mood of the crew in the car. Yes
Protective gridProtective grids or bars, as protection against mechanical damage to the subwoofer. Yes
