Traditional anti-corrosion coatings usually provide a short-term effect as they only hide underlying and ongoing corrosion - failure is first seen by blistering of the coating followed by rapid rust penetration. Hydrate 80 provides strong protection for rusted steel surfaces, its electrochemical function stabilizes existing corrosion by converting iron oxides into a protective metal complex . In addition, it works with surface moisture and oxygen, which deprive the corrosion process of the conditions it needs. Paints and coatings applied to a surface treated with Hydrate 80 show incredible improvements in long-term performance. Hydrate 80 provides an excellent stable barrier that prevents further rust attack. Formulated to provide a strong non-calcium barrier, the reinforcing polymer holds the metal surface firmly and creates an ideal base for additional coatings, paints or anti-corrosion wax. Important to the long-term protection of Hydrate 80 is that it does not contain chlorine , which is known to convert to corrosive hydrochloric acid. The long-term effect of Hydrate 80 has been shown to significantly increase the life of the coating, in independent tests carried out by the German organization TÜV under conditions VDA 621-415 (6 cycles or 1008 hours), which included exposure to hot salt spray, 100% relative humidity and drying atmosphere, while each cycle lasts 168 hours. Correct use of Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80

As with all coatings, preparation is important
Remove loose rust with a wire brush and sandpaper. The active components of Hydrate 80 must reach the oxidizing surface of the steel. Thoroughly degrease the surface and wash well with clean water to remove dust and contamination. Insufficient degreasing of the surface will cause so-called fish eyes, there may be greasy spots, which is undesirable.

Step 1
Shake thoroughly and pour the correct amount into a non-metallic container. Apply two coats sparingly 30 minutes apart. The first layer should be worked into divided areas and then smoothed with a brush in one direction. Excessive application should be avoided. The second coat should be applied at a 90° angle to the first coat. You will achieve the best results after 24 hours, after which you can apply the finishing coat.

Step 2
Where a quick workflow is required, you can usually cover Hydrate 80 after 3 hours with no loss of performance. Hydrate 80 can be applied by brush or spray. Spray application should be done first by applying a light mist that is left on (5 to 10 minutes), then spray a full coat. Using Hydrate 80 below 10°C will result in a slow reaction time.

Step 3
As Hydrate 80 is applied to clean steel, the affected area should be cleaned to the visibly corroded surface to ensure complete treatment. Wash the device with water.

Step 4
Hydrate 80 is an excellent base for a wide range of surface treatment systems. It is desirable, but not necessary, to use a quality primer before applying topcoats. Due to the many forms of coatings and curing processes, it is necessary to test the compatibility of products on a small scale before use.
