Clay Meguiar's Smooth Surface Clay Bar Replacement (80g)

Clay (read "glue") is the simplest and at the same time the most effective way to remove chemically aggressive dirt from the varnish, which ordinary washing is not enough. Flying rust, asphalt spots, sap from trees and other aggressive impurities stick to the surface of the paint and if you don't remove them with clay, the paint will deteriorate over time and it will be impossible to remove them except by sanding and subsequent painting. The package contains an 80g cube of clay, which is ideal for replenishing your supply when the original cube is already too clogged with dirt, or your cube has fallen on the ground.

Thanks to this cube, you can remove chemically aggressive dirt very easily and effortlessly, and the paint will be as smooth as a mirror. Don't forget to lubricate the body surface with A3316 Meguiar's Quik Detailer to decontaminate the paint. Clay is a special type of clay that very gently and effortlessly removes chemically aggressive impurities, so-called "contaminants", from the surface of paint, glass, chrome and most hard surfaces.

What is clay used for?

  • Clay removes chemically aggressive impurities (so-called "contaminants") that stick to the paint surface and cannot be removed by regular washing or mechanical polishing.
  • By using clay, you decontaminate the surface of the car body and achieve a surface as smooth as glass.
  • A perfectly smooth surface can subsequently be polished better, and wax or other paint protection will last significantly longer on it.

How do I know if I need to use clay?

  • After washing and drying the car, run an open palm over the bodywork. If you hear a characteristic rustling sound and feel bumps and bumps coming out of the varnish, then it's time to use clay.
  • The roughness of the surface is caused by contaminants that are stuck to the surface of the body (flying rust, brake dust, pitch from trees, asphalt, etc.). These impurities cannot be removed by regular washing or mechanical polishing. Dirt comes into contact with the car's paint every day and it is necessary to remove it before it penetrates the lower layers of the paint, where it will no longer be possible to remove it without repainting.

What flaws does clay eliminate?

  • Flying rust
  • Asphalt dots
  • Varnish dust
  • Sap from trees
  • Ter
  • Old brake dust
  • Dried insects
  • Dried bird droppings
  • Other chemically aggressive impurities that cannot be removed by normal washing
  • Clay does not remove subsurface paint defects (scratches, stains, oxidation, holograms, etc. - for these defects, one of Meguiar's polishes must be used).

How does clay work?

  • Clay captures contaminants and gently "extracts" them from paintwork and other hard surfaces.
  • Decontamination can achieve a surface that is as smooth as glass.

Won't I damage my varnish when working with clay?

  • By following a very easy work procedure, you will achieve a dazzling result without damaging the paint in any way.

Is the clay abrasive or does it have abrasive capabilities?

  • No, clay   it is not abrasive and has no abrasive capabilities. Therefore, it does not weaken the varnish in any way and there is no danger of damaging the surface you are working on.

How often should I use clay?

  • There is no fixed interval for using clay. The need for its use depends on many factors (how often you drive the car, where you park, how often you wash the car, etc.). The best way to determine the need for clay is to run the palm of your hand over a clean body surface.

How long does one clay cube last?

  • The lifetime of each cube is limited and depends on the level of contamination.
  • The older cube is full of captured contaminants, which it removes from the surface of the body. Clay is then dark and no longer so soft and smooth to the touch. Such clay, or clay that falls on the ground, in your own interest, replace it with a new one, otherwise there is a risk of scratching the paint surface!

Is it necessary to use clay before waxing the car?

  • Impurities associated with the surface of the paint prevent its shine and perfect reflection of light. If you use wax on such a dirty surface, you will never achieve the desired result. On the contrary, the varnish, freed of all surface impurities with clay, is ready for surface treatments with polish and wax, so you can achieve maximum results.

What is the best lube to use with clay?

Will the clay remove the wax layer?

  • Yes, clay is designed to remove all surface dirt and at the same time removes the protective layer applied earlier. After using the clay, we strongly recommend to preserve the varnish again with wax or another suitable product for maximum protection.

Does clay remove scratches and paint surface defects?

  • No, clay does not remove any subsurface paint defects.
  • Remember that scratches, stains, holograms and other defects are located below the surface of the paint. For these defects, it is necessary to use one of the Meguiar's polishes.
  • To achieve the best results, it is recommended to first decontaminate the paint with clay (to remove surface, chemically aggressive impurities) and then use the correct polish to remove paint defects.

How to store clay?

  • Clay should be stored in a dry and clean place. It must also be protected from dust and dirt. The plastic box that is part of the package is most suitable for its storage.

Application procedure

  • Make a cake with a diameter of approx. 5 cm from the cube of clay.
  • Work on a part of the body approx. 50 x 50 cm in size and after treating it continue on to the next part.
  • Lubricate the surface of the paint and clay sufficiently with a detailer, wipe the surface moistened with clay.
  • Do not press on the clay when applying!
  • Work in parallel movements approx. 15-20 cm long. Wipe the entire section first in one direction and then wipe the same section perpendicular to the original direction.
  • Finally, wipe the entire section dry with a microfiber cloth.
  • If some impurities resist, repeat the procedure, but in no case do not increase the pressure on the clay cube!

Tips for using clay

  • Always work in the shade and on a body that is cool to the touch.
  • Never press on the clay while working!
  • If your clay cube falls on the ground, do not try to clean it and throw it away. Clay absorbs so much dirt when it comes into contact with the ground that it can subsequently damage the paint.
  • Always sufficiently moisten the surface of the paint and clay with the detailer.
