BMW 4 (G22) - Morel Reference sound system (Harman Kardon replacement)

Top sound system of the BMW 440i (G22), in which we have replaced the additional Harman Kardon audio system. This beauty came to us practically straight from the BMW showroom, where it was recently handed over to its lucky owner. He already knew in advance that the factory sound system would not give him the same pleasure as the vehicle itself and had already been ordered from us for a long time. The requirement was to achieve top-quality sound with the possibility of listening to songs in high resolution, within the framework of an inconspicuous assembly without interfering with the original electrical installation. Thanks to the presence of the Harman Kardon factory sound system, the installation is more demanding than in the case of lower variants, and it is necessary to follow several principles not only for the assembly itself, but also for the correct selection of components and, in particular, for the subsequent tuning and setting of the sound. In this installation, we demonstrate everything that can be done with sound (not only) in BMW, including the tuning of several sound profiles, which will of course extend the installation by several hours. For the new audio system, we chose OEM speakers from the Israeli high-end manufacturer Morel, which brings uncompromising sound to the most demanding owners of the BMW car manufacturer, and of course in the required plug & play installation. All speakers therefore have the same shape, mounting and connectors as factory BMW speakers, and the installation therefore takes place without any intervention in the factory electrical installation. However, the main difference compared to competing solutions is the inimitable sound, which has made the brand famous not only in the world of car sound systems, but also in homes. Morel divides its speakers for BMW into two series - Reference and Performance. For this installation, we chose a combination of them, but the dominant front speakers are represented by the higher Reference series, which is simply the best quality that can be installed in BMW cars today. These speakers are based on the already almost legendary Hybrid model series, which is the ideal ticket to the world of Morel audiophile sound. You can thus enjoy silky tweeters with a typical Morelá "sweet & warm" sound, details in your favorite songs that you have not heard before, and high performance without any distortion. Specific subwoofers under the seats with excellent sound delivery also contribute to this. We connected all 12 Morel speakers to a twelve-channel amplifier from the German manufacturer Helix, which, in addition to optimal performance, also has great sound and an integrated DSP processor. For the perfect dynamics of the new audio system, we also added a compact and above all great-sounding JL Audio subwoofer and a corresponding amplifier also from this American manufacturer to the luggage compartment. At the end of the installation comes the most important thing. Sound measurement with the JL Audio Max professional measuring system with 5 microphones, which will allow you to literally squeeze the maximum out of the audio system in the vehicle. And that at a level that cannot be reached in any other way, which of course also applies to the most trained human ear. We will then set the measured results in the DSP processor program, fine-tune the sound in detail according to our preferences, and then we will have the final adjustment with our client. The result of a successful setup is a high-quality and faithful sound adapted to the driver and to this particular car. We tuned 3 audio presets in total - one for the factory Logic7 surround sound, another for the head unit focusing on the driver's location, and a third with the same audio routing, but for the Hi-Res Bluetooth module and mobile phone. The last option represents truly lossless sound quality in high resolution and with the purest reference signal without any sound limitation of the factory unit and amplifier. It is therefore always up to the car owner which sound profile he chooses for listening to his favorite music.
